A daily ritual for people who love birds
Every morning, dailybird.fyi features one species: a poster-quality illustration, the story behind it, and the field facts that make it worth knowing. Tick it, and it joins your life list.
What it is
This site is a love letter to our feathered friends, and a small experiment in making a daily habit around them. It's not an exhaustive guide or place for serious birding, that's why I'm linking to Merlin, eBird, and All About Birds for you to explore deeper. Most of the information I know comes from those sites anyway. Hopefully this is a fun way to learn a little bit every day.
With something like 11,000 bird species on Earth, I don't plan to cover every bird but I'll go for as long as I can and leave each bird with it's own permanent page here.
How it works

The homepage shows a new bird every day, with the art, a short writeup, the field marks, range, size, and conservation status you'd expect from a real field guide.

Tick it, keep it
Seen the bird before, or just want to remember today's? One tap adds it to your life list - the running tally birders have kept in notebooks for a century.

Sign in with just your email
No password. Your life list syncs across devices, and you can opt into a short daily email with that day's bird. See your account.

The archive keeps growing
Every bird featured so far lives in one place, searchable by name or family, so a missed day is never really missed. There's no pressure.
About the art
The art for each bird is AI assisted art. I'm not talented enough to draw a bird a day and without being able to generate them, this idea would die after the first week. If anyone wants to volunteer to create real art, I'd be thrilled. Each bird is created in one consistent style — layered paper-cut and gouache so the collection reads as one body of work rather than a grab bag. I do my best to review every illustration and fact check all the identifying features. I'd rather be upfront about that process than pretend otherwise.
Why I'm making this
dailybird.fyi started because I like birds and it was a fun project.
